Oakville Ward 1 and Regional Councillor Sean O’Meara is the new chair of Visit Oakville’s board of directors.

O’Meara replaces Philippa Durbin, the director of sales at the Holiday Inn Oakville Centre, who completed her term as chair.

Durbin will continue with the board as the past chair.

O’Meara was first elected in 2014 and re-elected in 2018. Since 2016 he has taken leadership roles in the organization’s strategic planning and governance review.

As the new chair, he’ll continue to aide Visit Oakville’s efforts to support local tourism businesses as they rebuild from the damaging effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“I am honoured to be leading such a great organization,” O’Meara said. “We see the challenges ahead as opportunities to support our local tourism industries and work to highlight just how incredible Oakville is to visit and enjoy.”

Among the changes is the addition of three new directors to the board.

Adrienne Gordon, executive director of the Downtown Oakville BIA, Clint Israel, president of CAMERON’S Brewing Co., and Charles Shifrin, revenue manager with Hilton Worldwide, are now on the board.

They join current directors Daniela Fonseca, LL.B., KMB Law, Victoria Mida, CPA, CA, PricewaterhouseCoopers, Drew Redden, Oakville Chamber of Commerce and Julian Kingston, Oakville Museum.

Outgoing board directors Meggan Gardner, of Golf Canada, and Doug Sams, of Kerr Village BIA, completed their terms.

Kristen Thomason, formerly of iFLY, left the board earlier.
