Oakville residents will have the opportunity to view a free screening of Sleepers tonight (May 25).

The new documentary series on addiction, presented by Oakville North-Burlington MP Pam Damoff’s Youth Council, will be shown tonight at Film.Ca Cinemas in Oakville beginning at 6:30 p.m.

Sleepers tells the story of three survivors of addiction, including Ontario entrepreneur Emily O’Brien. O’Brien has made a name for herself after serving time in federal prison for attempted drug smuggling as the founder of Canadian popcorn brand Comeback Snacks.

Stewart Pollock juggled his career as a band manager and art teacher while suffering from a heroin addiction. Tom Wilson is an Indigenous musician and author who fell victim to the drug culture surrounding his successful musical career.

The documentary, told through in-depth interviews, recounts the darkest moments and unlikely comebacks of three addictions survivors.

Following the screening, Damoff will host a panel discussion and conversation with O’Brien and Maria Estrada, Youth Coordinator of Just Be You Peer Program.
Film.Ca Cinemas are located at 171 Speers Road in Oakville.

Tickets are free with pre-registration and can be secured here.

Sleepers is created, produced, written and directed by Ryan Furlong. Executive producers are Ryan Furlong, Erica Lamont and O’Brien.
