Oakville, Burlington doctors recognized for contributions to community

Dr. Kristianna Martiniuk of Oakville and Dr. Jennifer Kwan of Burlington have both received an Award of Excellence from the Ontario College of Family Physicians.

The award recognizes outstanding contributions by a doctor in their local area pertaining to the specialty of family medicine.

This includes patient care, community service, hospital or health-care institutions, College activities (CFPC or OCFP), teaching, research or other elements of the academic discipline of family medicine.

Dr. Martiniuk (Oakville) is being recognized for championing the value and involvement of family physicians in the creation of a strong Connected Care Halton Ontario Health Team (OHT).

The OHT co-chair is a passionate advocate for system improvement and for improved patient and provider experiences in our healthcare system.

Dr. Martiniuk is also being rewarded for her efforts in co-founding the Halton Physician Association to strengthen collegiality in her local medical community and to support the ongoing integration of care.

Dr. Jennifer Jing Wah Kwan (Burlington) is recognized for her work during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Her leadership and commitment to communicating accessible health information in a transparent and understandable way helped spark increased public awareness and important healthcare discussions.

Dr. Kwan is also recognized for her advocacy, early in the pandemic, to secure PPE for frontline workers and in support of mask mandates in high-risk settings.
