Oakville’s downtown sector is in for a bit of a shake-up this month, as the parking garage located at 300 Church Street will be shut down for renovations for the next year. The Town of Oakville recently relayed the announcement to notify motorists as the project is set to kick off in the coming weeks.

The purpose of the renovation is to give the garage a bit of a boost in terms of longevity, as upon the project’s completion, the Church Street garage will have another 15 years of use added to its lifespan, as indicated by Oakville representatives.

These repairs will primarily address wear and tear discovered during a recent maintenance check.

According to engineering experts consulted by the Town of Oakville, the degree of structural damage requires a complete top-to-bottom overhaul, resulting in the garage’s complete closure.

Major upgrades that will be part of this upcoming facelift include updated elevators, waterproofing and payment systems, to name a few.

For those in the Halton Region looking for additional vehicular accommodations throughout this year-long construction abstraction, there is good news: Oakville is providing a real-time downtown parking map for public use throughout the entire process.

The garage will officially close on April 8.
