Oakville and Burlington Athletes Set to Compete in 2018 Winter Olympics

Seven local athletes are wearing red and white and proudly representing Oakville and Burlington in South Korea for the 2018 Winter Olympics.

The Games officially begin Friday.

You’ll see three familiar faces from Oakville: hockey players Brianne Jenner and Cody Goloubef, plus slopestyle skier Evan McEachran.

Then there are four from Burlington: bobsledder Jesse Lumsden, hockey player Renata Fast, speedskater Keri Morrison, and snowboarder Darren Gardner.

Athletes were expressing their excitement all over Twitter.

Residents are encouraged to sign a banner at Burlington_Mall in support of local Olympians. The banner can be signed until Feb. 14. It’ll then be shipped to Canada House in PyeongChang.  

The Burlington Sport Alliance will be at the mall handing out post cards for residents to sign in support of the athletes on Feb. 10 from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m.

There are 68 athletes from Ontario competing at the 2018 Winter Olympics, which is taking place Feb. 9 to Feb. 25.
