Number of COVID-19 cases among residents and staff of long-term care facilities continues to rise

As the number of people who have been diagnosed with the coronavirus continues to rise, healthcare workers are at a particularly high risk of contracting it due to the nature of their job.
Additionally, residents and staff of long-term care facilities are also at a higher risk of contracting the virus.
As of March 28, 91 healthcare workers in Ontario have contracted COVID-19.
According to Ontario’s chief medical officer David Williams, it’s unclear how many of the 91 were exposed or infected on the job at the health-care facilities.
Moreover, due to the fact many of the facilities aren’t testing all residents after the first three residents test positive, these numbers can be expected to rise as more outbreaks crop up.
Based on the latest available data, 21 cities across the province have seen instances of either residents or staff of long-term care facilities test positive with the virus.
These include several cases in Toronto and the GTA–two of whom who lived at Seven Oaks long-term care home in Scarborough died from the virus.
