Brampton-based artist Savannah Taylor will perform at the North by Northeast Music Festival’s This is Brampton showcase on June 15, 2023.

Four up-and-coming musicians from Brampton will be front and centre for a showcase of local artists at the North by Northeast Music Festival next week.

NXNE kicks off on June 13 featuring thousands of emerging artists from across Canada and around the world, and a handful of Brampton acts will be representing the Flower City’s artistic talents at the This is Brampton showcase.

Titled “The Velvet Rope,” this year’s lineup was curated by Brampton-based artist Savannah Taylor through her arts organization, Nina’s Daughters.

The event on June 15 at Underground in Toronto, the venue owned by superstar Canadian rapper Drake, promises to be an “ethereal and transformative concert experience” featuring Black female artists from Brampton, including Keziaa, Durreyl aka Glxy, Tasha Mac and Taylor herself.

“Amplifying black women musicians is one of our three pillars at Nina’s Daughters and we’re so excited to have the opportunity through this partnership to showcase just a bit of the talent that the city has to offer,” Taylor said in a release. “You can expect an ethereal night from a diverse group of songstresses singing with a live band. Every artist is bringing something special for the night that won’t want to miss.”

Savannah Taylor

Savannah Taylor is a multi-faceted, Brampton-based artist who inherited her love for music from her father. The self-taught singer/songwriter and actress is refining her craft through integrity and self-awareness, with her recent project Niveah-EP exploring the mental and spiritual journey that occurs when seeking to reconnect with our true self. Taylor draws inspiration from vocal and lyrical powerhouses like Nina Simone, Lauryn Hill, Erykah Badu, Jill Scott and Brittany Howard. As well as animated storytellers like Eartha Kitt and Outkast.

KEZIAA MUSIC

Brampton-born and raised artist Kezia has had a knack for music as early as age 8 and has since developed her own style, range and vocal abilities. She writes all of her own work, from Hip Hop, R&B, Soul, and Afroswing. Her work can be found on Spotify, Soundcloud, YouTube and Apple Music.

Tasha Mac

Tasha Mac is an R&B singer/songwriter who has been writing her own songs since the age of 14. Her recent single “in Love ” was inspired by past and current experiences that portray her now. To this day Tasha looks up to artists like Jessie Reyez, SZA, Summer Walker and other well-known artists with the unique R&B sound to make her emotions come to life.

Durreyl aka Glxy

Durreyl aka Glxy describes her sound as a sultry R&B/Jazz infused trap. She loves to incorporate her soft alluring voice with heavy-hitting kicks and drums but keeps the production light, airy and trance-like.
