Less than a month after announcing it was closing all Canadian stores, Nordstrom sales have started in Mississauga and across Canada but some say the discount is disappointing.

On March 2, Nordstrom Canada announced it is closing down all of its Canadian stores including those at the Heartland Centre in Mississauga and Sherway Gardens in Etobicoke.

And this week, an Ontario court granted the department store permission to sell off merchandise at all 13 locations before it closes its Canadian stores.

Store closing sales began Tuesday, March 21 at the Nordstrom Canada store at Sherway Gardens, 25 The West Mall; and the Nordstrom Rack Canada store at Heartland Town Centre, 788 Boyer Blvd, Mississauga, according to a press release.

The release states discounts of up to 20 per cent off were expected on the lowest ticketed prices on Nordstrom-made brands, luxury brands in women’s, men’s and children’s apparel, shoes, beauty, home, accessories, and more.

But those who rushed to sales on Tuesday found most items had only a five per cent discount.

Nordstrom Canada Liquidation Sale: Only 5 Percent Off, What An Embarrassment,” one person wrote on Twitter.

But a spokesperson for the joint venture group responsible for the liquidation encouraged people to shop early.

“A liquidation sale for such a storied brand is a rare occurrence and an opportunity for shoppers to purchase today’s most sought-after fashion brands at a discounted price,” the spokesperson said. “Given the quality of products being offered, we expect sales to be very brisk.”

Nordstrom Canada gift cards and Nordstrom Notes will be honoured.

All sales are final during this store closing event. Returns or exchanges are no longer accepted.

Selected fixtures, furnishings and equipment in the closing stores will also be for sale, the press release noted.
