Brampton’s unsung heroes can get the recognition they deserve at the Brampton Citizens Awards.

Nominations are now open for the awards, which are an annual event recognizing the contributions and achievements of Brampton residents.

The awards fall into seven categories, including the Sports Achievement Award, the Arts Acclaim Award, the Emergency Services Award of Valour and the coveted Citizens of the Year Awards.

The Citizen of the Year Awards recognizes local residents who help bring the community together, and is presented to a youth, adult and senior citizen each year.

A selection committee will review all the entries, with input from community members, elected officials, Brampton Fire and Emergency Services, Peel Regional Police and other groups.

Eligibility varies from award to award, but nominees are generally required to be a resident of Brampton, or have performed their nomination-worthy deeds within the City of Brampton.

Since 1974, the City of Brampton has recognized more than 3,500 outstanding residents in the areas of sports, arts, and community service.
