Scammers don’t take a break even for the holidays, it seems.

A local resident recently reported getting multiple MMS texts from an unknown number, prompting them to download a file.

It looks like this:

Messages like this are typically an “active number” type of scam. If you click to download the file you likely won’t see anything, but you’ll tip off the scammer that your number is in use, which will prompt them to send even more scam messages to your number.

Your number could also get added to an “active numbers” list that other scammers might use.

As with all scam texts, residents are advised to simply delete them and avoid clicking any links or downloading any files.
