‘No shots fired’ in smash-and-grab robbery at Mississauga mall, police say

Sounds reported as gunshots were actually hammers smashing jewelry cases during a robbery at a Mississauga mall, police say.

Peel Regional Police say officers received multiple calls about possible gunshots at Erin Mills Town Centre around 6:15 p.m. on Thursday.

But the noises were actually “hammers hitting glass” during a smash-and-grab robbery, police say.

Multiple masked suspects entered a jewelry store and hammers were used to break into display cases. No injuries were reported, and police haven’t said whether any property was stolen.

“Multiple reports indicating gunshots, there were NO shots fired,” police said in a post on social media. “Callers heard the hammers hitting glass.”

The suspects fled the mall in a vehicle. Police say shoppers can expect to see a heavy police presence while the investigation is underway.

No suspect descriptions have been released.
