Mississauga residents can set off fireworks on their own property this holiday Monday without first having to get official permission.
Victoria Day is one of four days throughout the year when residents can stage fireworks displays on private property without first obtaining a permit from the City of Mississauga.
The other days are Canada Day, Lunar New Year and Diwali.
City officials remind people that fireworks cannot be set off at any time on a public street, park or road without obtaining the necessary fireworks display permit.
They also urge people to only buy fireworks from licensed retailers in order to ensure safety of the products, which can be dangerous if not properly designed or used.
Last year on Canada Day, City staff responded to a number of complaints related to illegal fireworks being set off in some parks. Multiple small fires resulted, but there were no injuries reported.
To apply for a fireworks display permit or for more information, call 905-896-5908 or email [email protected].
Applications must be sent to the City at least 14 days prior to the event.
