no go trains mississauga and toronto due to work on bridge.

GO trains will not run all day Saturday and the early part of Sunday between Mississauga and Toronto on the normally busy Lakeshore West line as crews work to replace an old railway bridge.

Metrolinx, the provincial agency that runs GO Transit, said in an email update on Friday morning that “critical track work” is scheduled to take place all day Saturday and again on Sunday morning until 11 a.m. as the Etobicoke Creek bridge is fully replaced.

The structure is “nearing the end of its useful life,” the agency said.

“This rehabilitation work is critical to maintaining safe and reliable service on the Lakeshore West line,” Metrolinx added, noting the work will also lead to “faster, more frequent service across the network.”

Transit officials said regular weekend service on the Lakeshore West line will resume at 11 a.m. on Sunday to allow people to ride GO trains to the Toronto Blue Jays/Seattle Mariners MLB playoff game scheduled for Sunday night.

The temporary shelving of GO train service on the line actually extends west of Mississauga out to Oakville and will impact people in Mississauga, Toronto and elsewhere along the busy corridor.

GO trains will continue to run on schedule between Niagara Falls and Oakville on Saturday and Sunday, Metrolinx said.

During the closure of the Mississauga/west Toronto section of the Lakeshore West train line, GO Bus Route 56 will leave every half hour from Oakville and Clarkson (Mississauga) stations and run to Bramalea GO. From there, customers can connect to eastbound train service on the Kitchener Line to Union Station in downtown Toronto.

During the line closure on Saturday and early Sunday, Metrolinx noted there will be no GO Transit service at all at Port Credit, Long Branch and Mimico stations.

Special trains will run on Saturday between Union Station and Exhibition GO Station, the agency added.

Some late-night “service adjustments” on Friday are also planned.
