If you have been saving up your junk, ready to put it out curb side in Mississauga and Brampton for one giant pick up this fall, you can forget about it.

For the fourth time since the beginning of the pandemic, Peel Region is cancelling its garbage exemption period.

Traditionally Peel holds two such events each year – one in the spring and one in the fall – where homeowners can put out a limited amount of items on garbage day.

The exemption period has been cancelled due to ongoing concerns about COVID-19 and maintaining the safety of those who collect the waste.

Alternatively, residents can take excess garbage and bulky items to a Community Recycling Centre (CRC); however a fee will be applied.

As well, extra garbage can be put out on regular garbage collection days (but don’t do it on recycling days).
