Virtual shows are one thing, but there’s nothing like the real McCoy when it comes to the grand dame of Oshawa’s flowers, the Peony.

Despite some rainy periods, the crowds returned to the Oshawa Valley Botanical Gardens and Children’s Arena for the Oshawa Peony Festival June 11-12, the first in-person event for the popular festival since 2019.

Locals and tourists alike got to see more than 300 varieties of peonies in the gardens and hundreds more inside the adjoining arena on the weekend, including the grand champion in the cut flower show.

Attendees also got to enjoy expert gardening advice and to visit community art displays as well as the children’s gardens.

The event, the 15th annual festival, also played host to the Canadian Peony Society’s annual general meeting.
