Some 95 per cent of staff and professional staff at Mississauga’s hospitals are fully vaccinated against COVID-19, say hospital officials who mandated compliance by yesterday.

Trillium Health Partners (THP), which oversees Mississauga Hospital, Credit Valley Hospital and Queensway Health Centre (Etobicoke), said in a statement this afternoon that in addition to those fully vaccinated, another one per cent of staff has received a single dose of the vaccine.

THP said progressive discipline for those who have not yet complied with the full-vaccination mandate began today.

“Disciplinary actions include a warning, unpaid suspension and termination. We strongly encourage those who have not been vaccinated to receive both doses of the COVID-19 vaccine,” the statement reads. “Trillium Health Partners has served one of the hardest-hit communities throughout the pandemic. To ensure we are doing everything we can to protect those in our community and within our care, as of Oct. 20, COVID-19 vaccination is mandatory for all THP staff, professional staff, volunteers and learners. This excludes those with an approved medical exemption or accommodation.”

Hospital officials, who set the Oct. 20 deadline in early September, said earlier that while the goal is 100 per cent compliance, “we will work through any cases of non-compliance on a case-by-case basis.”

The healthcare organization says it’s providing various supports to staff, including one-on-one information sessions and conversations, access to a spiritual care leader and town halls in efforts to encourage as much compliance as possible.
