There are nine confirmed cases of Monkeypox in Burlington, Oakville, Milton and Halton Hills, about two per cent of the cases province-wide.

Public Health Ontario today released the cumulative stats for May 20 to Aug. 8, with 478 total cases in the province.

Of those, 475 are in men and 359 (75.1 per cent) are in Toronto. The average age of confirmed victims is 36.1 years old.

Only 15 of the cases has required hospitalization, two in the ICU, and no deaths have been reported.

The most commonly reported symptoms of the disease include rash, oral/genital lesions, swollen lymph nodes, headache, fever, chills, myalgia and fatigue.

In addition to Toronto, the other health units that have more cases than Halton includes Hamilton with 11, Middlesex-London with 13 and Ottawa with 36. Durham also has nine cases.

Although cases have mostly been identified among males who report sexual or intimate contact with other males (MSM), anyone can get monkeypox.

According to Public Health Ontario, various factors that may increase the potential risk for exposure include close, sexual, and/or other intimate contact with someone who has a monkeypox rash, sore, or scabs.
