The youth in the Niagara Region are showing the adults how it’s done during the COVID-19 pandemic.

As of today (August 25), more than half of all Niagara Region residents between the age of 12 and 17 are now fully vaccinated.

Despite being the last group to qualify for the vaccine, Niagara Health’s daily statistics show that 51 per cent of all Niagara youth are fully vaccinated while 65 per cent have received at least one dose.

Health Canada did not approve vaccinations for this age group until July 15, meaning more than half are fully vaccinated in little more than a month – speed that greatly outstrips every other age group.

Their efforts have not gone unnoticed. On Twitter, Niagara Region Public Health applauded, “Niagara’s youth are doing their part to #StickItToCOVID! Over 50% of 12-17 year olds are now fully vaccinated. Let’s keep going, Niagara!”

The Town of Lincoln agreed, tweeting, “Our future leaders are making an impact and showing leadership!  What an inspiration!”
