Just as it was the case in January, the unemployment numbers in Niagara Region continued at a record low of 4.3 per cent.

Provincially and nationally, the numbers are sitting at roughly five per cent – a significant step up from the Niagara stats.

The size of the labour force in Niagara also stepped up slightly from 231,000 in January to 231,100 in February.

Nationally, jobs increased in health care and social assistance (more than 15,000 more jobs), public administration (more than 10,000 more jobs), and utilities (more than 7,500 new jobs).

At the same time, fewer people worked in business, building and other support services (down 11,000 jobs).
