While Environment Canada is warning that things will start getting ugly tonight (Feb. 17), it’s already pretty bad for some areas in Grimsby where the water is rushing through neighbours.

At the moment, municipalities along Lake Erie (Wainfleet, Port Colborne and Fort Erie) is already facing a rainfall and winter weather advisory – while those on Lake Ontario (Grimsby, Lincoln, St. Catharines and Niagara-on-the-Lake) are being warned that they won’t be far behind.

Environment Canada is saying this rain will turn into freezing rain followed by snowfall throughout the night.

The Lake Ontario side is expected to see 10 to 20 cm of snow tonight while the Lake Erie side is being called for 10-15 cm of the white stuff.

At the same time, the Niagara Peninsula Conservation Authority has already issues potential flooding alerts, saying the melted snow mixed in with the rainfall will cause a rise in water for local rivers.

Drivers are being warned that conditions on the road tomorrow could be icy and with the snowfall, the surface conditions may not be obvious.

The below video shows what one Grimsby neighbourhood faced this morning.
