Niagara sets up Adopt-a-Road program for community involvement

Niagara Region has created an Adopt-a-Road program with an eye to having citizens or service groups pick up litter and keep their section of the road clean.
“Adopt-a-Road is a way for citizens, community and civic organizations, private businesses, and industry to contribute to making roads in Niagara more clean and beautiful,” said the region in a release.
“The program creates a cleaner, healthier environment and encourages community spirit and pride with people taking an active role in their community.”
In recognition and consideration of support for the program, the region will install an Adopt-A-Road sign with the organization’s name or citizens’ name acknowledging their efforts.
So how long is a resident’s piece of the road still theirs? Three years is the standard term for an adoption agreement although they may be renewed, revised or terminated after the initial three year period.
Litter pick-up is required a minimum of two times per year, at pre-determined intervals, usually once in the spring and once in the fall.
