According to Niagara Region’s Director of Infectious Diseases Dr. Karim Ali, the great majority of Ontario citizens being admitted to hospital due to COVID-19 and then into the ICU are not yet vaccinated.

Anthony Dale, president of the Ontario Hospital Association, posted that due to the Delta variant, ICU numbers were steadily rising with 10 more being admitted yesterday (August 16) for a total of 124 province-wide.

Ali was quick to note that “Delta is a different beast in the population that’s not vaccinated. This is so important to understand. The majority of patients being admitted to hospitals and specifically in ICUs haven’t received the vaccine yet.”

He added, “Vaccines are really, really, really good at preventing severe disease due to Delta or any other variants of COVID-19 at this time. Having high levels of community immunity will help kids with a safe school reopening.”

Ali recently posted Saskatchewan’s daily COVID-19 break-down which clearly shows the new cases who are unvaccinated, partially vaccinated and fully vaccinated.

The western province is hoping that those resisting vaccination will reconsider when they see the actual figures.
