Niagara Police spending March Break collecting food for needy

The Niagara Police are partnering with nine different food agencies at 12 Niagara grocery stores all next week for their second annual “NRPS Spring Food Drive.”

Last year, their first ever food drive collected 20,274 pounds in food and $13,354.30 in cash/gift cards. Based on that success, this year’s repeat event was a given.

“Food insecurity is often supported in the community over the traditional holiday seasons through collections and drives. This, however, is a year-round issue,” said the police in a release.

“COVID-19 has also been difficult for many people in our community. Many of the challenges that have come with COVID-19 have compounded the demand for food products to support families within our Niagara communities.”

The food drive will run from March 14 to 18 from 9 am to 3 pm at the following Niagara locations:

March 14

  • No Frills – 1135 Thompson Rd. – Fort Erie (supporting The Salvation Army)
  • Sobeys – 287 West Side Rd. – Port Colborne (supporting Port Cares)

March 15

  • No Frills – 4961-863 King St. – Lincoln (Beamsville) (supporting Community Care of West Niagara)
  • Foodland – 239 St. Catharine St. – West Lincoln (Smithville) (supporting West Lincoln Community Care)
  • Superstore – 361 South Service Rd. – Grimsby (supporting GBF Community Service)

March 16

  • No Frills – 390 Lincoln St. East – Welland (supporting The Hope Centre)
  •  Zehrs – 821 Niagara St. – Welland (supporting The Hope Centre)
  • Food Basics – 130 Hwy 20 East – Pelham (supporting Pelham Cares)

March 17

  • Superstore – 411 Louth St. – St. Catharines (supporting Community Care)
  • No Frills – 581 Lake St. – St. Catharines (supporting Community Care)

March 18
