The Niagara Police smashed in a car window to save a dog trapped in a hot parked car on the weekend.

On August 28 at 5:30 pm, police were called to the parking lot of the Outlet Collection at Niagara at 300 Taylor Road in Niagara-on-the-Lake.

Once there, they saw a small white dog in a parked car. Police say, “The dog appeared to be in distress, displaying heavy panting and barking, drawing the attention of members of the public.”

They added that given the high temperatures (close to 40C with the Humidex), the dog started to show signs of suffering and was anxiously attempting to get out of the car at different windows consistently.

After not being able to find the driver, police broke the driver’s side window to rescue the dog.

Eventually, the owner did show up and was arrested.

Jeyapragash Pulendrarajah, 39, of Whitby was charged with causing unnecessary suffering

Pulendrarajah was released with a future court date.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Niagara Regional Police Service at 905-688-4111, ext. 1002200.
