Last night (August 5) at 5:50 pm, Niagara Police received a 911 call from a man fishing in a boat on Lake Ontario, saying he had discovered the body floating in the lake.

Vessels from the Canadian Coast Guard and the NRPS Marine Unit rushed to the scene 10 kilometres north of Niagara-on-the-Lake between the Welland Canal and the Niagara River.

The body of a male was recovered and taken to a boat dock in Niagara-on-the-Lake by the NRPS Marine Unit.

The body has since been sent to the Centre of Forensic Sciences in Toronto for a postmortem and positive identification.

However, the Niagara Police Marine Unit has been searching for a missing 27-year-old Toronto man who was swept away by the current in the Niagara River on August 1.

The police already recovered the body of his companion, a 22-year-old Toronto woman, who they believed got caught in the river’s strong currents in the area of the Niagara Parkway near Whirlpool Road.

The investigation remains ongoing by detectives. Anyone who may have information about this incident is being asked to call 905-688-4111, 1022200.
