The Niagara Police Marine Unit will continue to scour the Niagara River today (August 3), hoping to find a 27-year-old Toronto man who got swept into the current on August 1.

The police already recovered the body of his companion, a 22-year-old Toronto woman, who they believed got caught in the river’s strong currents in the area of the Niagara Parkway near Whirlpool Road.

Though they tried reviving her once she was found, she was later pronounced dead at a nearby hospital.

Even with the assistance of Niagara Helicopters and Niagara Jet Boats, the police have yet to find the man.

They believe she entered the water and when she got caught in the strong current, the man tried to assist her but then got swept out by the current himself.

Neither the name of the woman or missing man has been released.

The incident remains under investigation by detectives. Anyone with information is asked to call 905-688-4111, extension #1022200.
