A simple traffic stop in Niagara-on-the-Lake on July 1 led to 10 charges for the three people in the car.

At 4:30 pm, a marked cruiser on Hwy 405 spotted a 2003 Audi driving towards Stanley Avenue. Checking the cruiser’s database, it turned out a suspended driver was listed as the owner of the car.

Pulling the car over, the officer quickly noticed one passenger wasn’t wearing a seatbelt. He also allegedly gave the officer a false ID.

Trying to determine the man’s actual identity, an officer then allegedly found over 300 grams in suspected drugs and nearly $1,000 in cash. Two men and a woman were charged at the scene.

Jesse Marius Lalande, 37, of St. Catharines was arrested for two charges of possession of illegal drugs, one charge of cash from crime, one charge of obstruction of an officer, one charge of failing to comply and one charge of failing to wear a seatbelt.

Sarah M. Lyon, 37, of Niagara-on-the-Lake was arrested with two charges of illegal drug possession.

Charles Ian Buckingham, 41, of Niagara-on-the-Lake was also arrested with two charges of illegal drug possession.

Lalande was held pending a video bail hearing today (July 2) while both Lyon and Buckingham were released pending trial.
None of the charges have been proven in court.
