When Niagara Region saw they needed to expand the parking lot of their sewage pumping station, located in Niagara-on-the-Lake at 42 Raiana Drive, an agreement was put into place for a land transfer from Town to Region.

The price for the 146.8 square metres of property? The princely sum of $2.

That said, the expansion to the plant “will allow the Region to continue with standard operational procedures safely and without disrupting the traffic flow.”

And since issues like smooth traffic flow are key concerns to a tourist town such as NOTL, the agreement passed through with ease.

NOTL staff said there was no financial downside to the Town as the Region “will register the property at their own expense.”

“All future construction and maintenance on the property will be paid by the Region. There are, therefore, minimal financial implications for the Town.”

So the Town was swift to rubber-stamp the agreement “to ensure normal operational procedures can occur safely at the pumping station.”
