Niagara-on-the-Lake drivers used to zipping back-and-forth along Queen Street as they pass Mississagua Street better get used to stopping, instead.

On Tuesday (August 3), the Town will be shutting down Queen on both streets of Mississagua, as well as Mississagua itself.

Until now, what was once a single stop on Mississagua, forcing drivers to wait before they could turn in either direction on Queen, is about to become a three-way stop at the corner.

Concerned with back-ups on Mississagua during high-traffic hours on Queen, the town will now be ensuring that Mississagua drivers get their chance, as well.

The Town said that since Queen Street traffic isn’t used to stopping there, “Drivers are urged to use extra caution at this intersection as traffic on Queen Street adjusts to the new stop signs.”

The Town said while the two new signs are likely to be installed on August 3, “weather permitting, the intersection will be closed for the day during installation, with detour routes in place.”

And Queen Street drivers who might want to play the “there wasn’t a stop sign there before” gambit are being duly warned. “Enforcement of the all-way stop will commence immediately upon installation.”
