Wayne Gates was on hand for the ground-breaking ceremony of the new Abatement Technologies manufacturing and warehousing facility this morning (August 20) and came away thrilled that the world-renowned company was setting up its global headquarters in Fort Erie.

The MPP for Niagara Falls, NOTL and Fort Erie said afterwards, “During the height of the pandemic the family at Abatement worked closely with our office to provide the technology to help keep our long-term care homes safe and fight back against COVID-19 in the early stages of the virus.”

The family-owned company specializes in hospital-grade HEPA filtration systems that are a crucial part of COVID-19 containment efforts and went all-in on a Niagara expansion to complement 10 other international locations.

Gates added, “We will never forget the care they showed for our seniors and our community (during the pandemic). Working together, this project is going to give back to our community even more by creating good jobs in Fort Erie.”

The company has said the attraction to the Niagara Region was made up of a number of factors, including:

  • Access to all the shipping lanes and proximity to major airports
  • Niagara’s industrial, commercial and residential real estate prices being a fraction of Toronto’s
  • Access to hundreds of skilled tradespeople and graduates from leading post-secondary institutions like Brock University in St. Catharines and Niagara College in Welland
  • The region’s low cost of living, high quality of life and tight-knit sense of community
