With new provincial regulations in place today, the Niagara IceDogs had no idea as of yesterday (December 4) whether or not the Ontario Hockey League action would take place this month and whether or not they’d even be playing.

Mindful of the fact that the Omicron variant could shut down any of the 20 OHL teams at any given moment, the IceDogs admitted to being in a state of limbo.

“We are still awaiting further information from the (provincial) government and league, and will be able to provide a more detailed update later this week. This comes as a disappointment and shock to all of us, however, we have to follow the rules and regulations set out by our Government,” said the team in a release.

However, they were certain of one thing. “Under new regulations, spectators will no longer be permitted.”

To that end, the IceDog wanted to reassure their fans that they wouldn’t be left out in the cold.

“If any games are cancelled and/or played without fans, all payment will be returned as account credit to be used for future games, playoff tickets, and/or 2022-23 season ticket renewals,” the team said, adding, “If games are postponed, your tickets will be valid for the rescheduled date and/or can be exchanged for a different regular season game.”
