A suspicious fire to the front porch of a Niagara Falls house has lead to arson charges for a Niagara Falls woman.

Police were called to the empty house on Bridge St. near Chrysler Ave. on May 28 at 8:40 pm where they found the Niagara Falls Fire Department had already taken care of it.

While no one was hurt, damage was listed at roughly $2,000. However, both departments heard reports of a person running from the scene after the fire started, causing them to believe it was “suspicious.”

Working together on the investigation, they were able to identify a suspect.

On May 31, Brenda Lee Theal, 47, of Niagara Falls was charged with arson causing property damage

She is being held in custody for a video bail hearing today (June 1) at the courthouse in St. Catharines.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact the investigating officers by calling 905-688-4111, option 3, extension 1009994.
