And that is how you bring in a new year!

Niagara Police set up two separate RIDE spot checks in Niagara Falls and Welland on December 31, stopping over 500 vehicles. In the end, no impaired driving charges were laid.

Police say in total, 12 drivers were asked to provide a sample of their breath for analysis.  “Each driver provided a sample that resulted in an acceptable range and were free to drive away,” they reported.

Niagara Police say they “were pleased to see the abundance of designated drivers and transportation services that aided in the safe travel of community members throughout the night.”

However, they did add that “several passengers” were found not wearing seat belts so they handed out some tickets due to that.
