Niagara Falls, Welland finish well down on Top-100 happiest Canadian cities list

Niagara Falls and Welland were the only two Niagara municipalities to show up on a recent list of Canada’s Happiest Cities.

The fact is even those cities didn’t fare particularly well with Niagara Falls coming in at 83rd and Welland trailing tht at 93rd.

Analysts of the real estate company, Point2, said they determined the happiest cities in Canada by studying 30 happiness-related metrics, “including median after-tax income, poverty rate, perceived health, and a sense of belonging, as well as practical factors such as commute time, rainfall, and air quality.”

Their breakdown does not explain how they measured intangibles such as “sense of belonging.”

Caledon, Ontario, emerged as the happiest overall city in Canada, with a “happiness index” of 67 out of 100.

Halton fared well with Milton at #2, Halton Hills at #3, Burlington at #5 and Oakville at #7.

Other nearby municipalities such as Brampton (22) and Mississauga (30) also fared better than Niagara Region.

While Ontario fared well as a whole, Quebec also had a number of cities as did B.C.
