When a British insurance company, comparethemarket.com, pulled together a study compiling the Top-20 ‘Bucket List’ destinations in the world, Niagara Falls was the only Canadian landmark on the list but showed up a strong fourth.

Only the Burj Khalifa in Dubai, which finished on top, and Paris’ Eiffel Tower and New York City’s Times Square, which were two and three respectively edged out Niagara Falls, the only destination on the list that shared a border and was considered both a Canadian and American attraction.

Niagara Falls was ranked highly with over 3.5 million Instagram pictures posted annually with the hashtag #Niagarafalls and a monthly Google search volume of over 1.8 million.

For the uninitiated, Burj Khalifa is the world’s tallest free-standing structure at 830 meters (2,722 feet). To put that in perspective, from a Niagara Falls comparison, the Skylon Tower is only 158 meters (518 feet). However, a better yardstick might be Toronto’s CN Tower at 553.3 meters (1,815 feet).

At 830 meters high, the Burj Khalifa in Dubai is the world’s tallest free-standing structure.

Anna McEntee from comparethemarket.com said of the Bucket List, “Whether it’s a personal goal, or one to strive towards with family and friends, bucket lists are a useful tool for helping us break down what we want to achieve within our lifetime. Ticking an item off from our bucket lists can also bring a great sense of accomplishment.

“Whether your goals for 2023 are travel-related, personal or professional, consider how a bucket list can help you narrow down what you want to achieve in the year ahead.”
