Niagara Falls ranks fourth-highest in New Year’s Eve hotel price hikes

Niagara Falls was ranked fourth on the list for the highest price hikes for hotel rooms on New Year's Eve.

Niagara Falls was listed as the fourth-highest Canadian city/town when it came to New Year’s Eve price hikes in hotels.

According to a survey of 20 Canadian destination by Cheaphotels.org, the average room price in Niagara Falls for December 31st was $465, equaling a price hike of 285 per cent for the one night.

Surprisingly, tiny, picturesque Niagara-on-the-Lake also cracked the Top-Ten, coming in ninth with an average New Year’s Eve price of $335. However, unlike others on the list, that only represented a 31 per cent increase.

The survey compared the cost of accommodation this coming December 31 across 20 Canadian destinations. For each destination, the price for the cheapest available double room was recorded. Only centrally-located hotels rated at least three stars and with generally positive guest reviews were taken into account.

The city of Mont-Tremblant, Quebec, known for its popular ski resort, was the most expensive destination in Canada for an overnight stay on New Year’s Eve this year, with rooms averaging a staggering $880 – an increase of 284 per cent.

The remainder of the Top-Ten were Whistler, BC, at $658 (+29 per cent), Banff at $563 (+233 per cent), Halifax at $422 (+227 per cent), Jasper at $381 (+231 per cent), Toronto at $375 (+175 per cent), Quebec City at $353 (+117 per cent) and Vancouver at $325 (+170 per cent).
