With the Tokyo Olympics officially kicking off today (July 23), Niagara Falls Mayor Jim Diodati brought some former Olympian star power with him this morning as the City officially raised the Olympic flag in front of City Hall.

Niagara Falls natives and former Olympic cyclist Gord Singleton, who competed in the Montreal 1976 and Moscow 1980 Games, joined in the flag-raising, as did former World Champion Weightlifter and current Vice President of Weightlifting Canada Jason MacLean.

Also in the mix, one of Diodati’s Council-mates, Mike Strange, who boxed light welterweight at the 1992 Barcelona, 1996 Atlanta and 2000 Sydney, Australia Olympic Games.

“Let the Game begin!” declared Diodati.
