You can always count on Niagara Falls Mayor Jim Diodati to do things, well, a little differently.

Instead of your typical mayoral State of the City Address, Diodati grabbed a handful of creative types and shot a video in and around the sights of Niagara Falls last month.

But it wasn’t your regular video. No, Diodati tore a page straight out of the Glee Handbook and took part in creating a musical State of the City Address.

“Instead of an annual State of the City Address this year, I wanted to creatively share the collective challenges, universal experiences and emotions of having navigated a global pandemic together,” Diodati said on social media.

Adding a sombre tone, he added, “This video is dedicated to all of the people who have lost lives directly or indirectly through this pandemic and all of the people on the front lines.”

The parody of Billy Joel’s “We Didn’t Start the Fire” is called “We Didn’t Start The Virus” and it tracked COVID-19 back to its roots in early 2020.
