A Niagara Falls man is on the loose after a reported assault took place today (Feb. 15) in a Thorold home.

The Niagara Police were called to a home in the Kottmeier Rd. and Port Robinson Rd. area of Thorold at 8:30 am after reports of a possible assault.

When they arrived, they learned the suspect had already taken off, possibly on foot, but they found a loaded handgun on the scene that the assailant had used.

An extensive search by both foot patrol and the K9 Unit turned up nothing but the police heard he might have fled to a house in Niagara Falls.

Police then landed at the home in the St. Lawrence Ave and Simcoe St. area of Niagara Falls but didn’t find the suspect. He remains on the loose at this point.

Juan Carlos Castro, 28, of Niagara Falls is wanted for assault and possession of a dangerous weapon. The police added that the investigation is in its early stages with more charges expected.

Castro is described as a black male, 28 years old, 5-foot-10, 170 pounds with braided medium length black hair. He also wear glasses on occasion. He was last seen wearing a white jacket, white sweater and black pants. (See photo above.)

Due to the recovery of a loaded firearm, police believe he may still be armed and should not be approached.

They’re asking residents who know his whereabouts to contact 911 immediately.

Anyone with information is being asked to contact the lead detective by dialing 905-688-4111, option 3, extension 1009332.
