A Niagara Falls man has been charged in connection with the stabbing and robbery of an elderly man in Markham on Feb. 24.

York Police were called to the scene in the Laird Dr. and Marydale Ave. area in Markham on that day at 5 pm with reports of a robbery.

When they arrived, they found an elderly man who had been stabbed and robbed while he was walking home from a bank.

Suffering from serious injuries, they quickly got him to the hospital where he remains remains though he is expected to recover.

Eventually the York Police determined the identity of the suspect and arrested him yesterday (March 6) after locating him in Hamilton.

Brandon Omardeen, 33, of Niagara Falls has been charged with robbery, aggravated assault, possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose and disguise with intent.

He was held in custody and will be appear today (March 7) at the court in Newmarket.

York Police says the investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information on this incident, or any witnesses who have not yet spoken with police, are urged to come forward.

As well, they are reminding citizens “to be vigilant and aware of their surroundings while in public. Call police immediately to report suspicious persons if you feel unsafe or if you believe you are being followed.”
