Come the new year, the City of Niagara Falls is going to have a new Director of Planning, Building and Development.

After 30 years in the position, the current department head, Alex Herlovitch, will be retiring, creating the vacancy that Kira Dolch will now fill on January 17.

Dolch comes armed with credentials, most recently having served as Fort Erie’s Director of Planning and Development Services.

The Brock University graduate has stayed closed to home with over 22 of experience and a proven track record in land use planning in the private and public sectors, starting her career as a town planner with Niagara-on-the-Lake.

She then joined Fort Erie in 2003 as a Senior Development Planner and was promoted to successive positions including the Manager of Development Approvals, Associate Director of Planning and Development Services and the Town’s Director in 2020.

“We are pleased to welcome Ms. Dolch to the City of Niagara Falls at an exciting time when the City is poised for significant growth and new business development including new investment projects such as the construction of the new South Niagara Hospital,” said Niagara Falls CAO Jason Burgess. “Ms. Dolch’s leadership skills and knowledge will be essential to the building and development of our community and in guiding the planning of Niagara Falls’ future.”
