The collision in Niagara Falls earlier today has proven fatal after the motorcyclist involved in the crash succumbed to his injuries.

The motorcycle, a blue 2023 Yamaha R1, was travelling east on Lundy’s Ln. through a busy commercial area. The motorcycle and a westbound car, a red 2020 Toyota Corolla, collided between Kalar Rd. and Beaverdams Rd shortly before 3 p.m. on Apr. 12.

The motorcyclist, 53, of Welland, and his passenger, 28, of Welland, were both seriously injured in the crash. Paramedics rushed both to a local hospital. However, the motorcyclist died of his injuries sometime later, police confirmed shortly before 9 p.m.

The motorcycle passenger remains in the hospital in serious condition. Police have not commented on the Toyota driver’s condition.

The Niagara Police Collision Reconstruction Unit quickly shut down the area after the crash. They suspended traffic on all eastbound lanes and all but one westbound lane on Lundy’s for several hours to investigate. However, they have since reopened the roadway.

“The circumstances related to the cause of the collision remain under investigation,” police said.
