The Niagara Falls Barrelman Triathlon is coming to the city this Sunday and motorist should be prepared for major roads to be shut down throughout the day.

Over the course of the day, participants will swim, bike, and run, completing over 110 kilometres of road and river across the Niagara Region.

Niagara Parks will once again host the final leg, which is the running portion, with Kingsbridge Park serving as the official finish line on Sunday, September 18.

The road closures will be in effect from 6 am to 7 pm with the following roads affected.

There will be a full road closure of the Niagara Parkway from Upper Rapids Boulevard, south to the Portage Road intersection at Macklem Street, as well as a single southbound lane closure of the Niagara Parkway from Fraser Hill to Upper Rapids Boulevard.

Access to Dufferin Islands, including access via Burning Springs Hill Road, will be closed to all vehicle traffic.

There will be lane closures along Portage Road, including Chippawa’s Weightman Bridge, that may begin as early as 6 a.m. and won’t be fully re-opened until 7 p.m. as the final participants complete the course.

However, there will be some access in specific areas. Chippawa residents of Rapids View Drive and Bukator Drive will be provided access during the closure, with the assistance of the Niagara Parks Police.

As well, Niagara Falls WEGO buses, Niagara Parks’ Table Rock Centre, Floral Showhouse, Falls Parking Lot and Fraser Hill overflow parking will all remain open and accessible to visitors.
