Fallsview Casino and Resort and Casino Niagara will both be open to 100 per cent capacity this Thursday.

While neither Casino Niagara nor Fallsview Casino and Resort has given the official word to their employees yet, it is expected that both will open to 100 per cent capacity this Thursday (February 17) at 12:01 am after today’s announcement from the Province gave them the official okay.

“We haven’t heard anything from the office yet,” one customer service rep told us over the phone, “but in the past, we’ve always followed the lead from the government (vis-a-vis restriction lifting) so yes, we all think so.”

One rule they’ve already loosened up was the no-drinking rule on the casino floor. However, one employee made it clear that you have to be seated to drink and that food is still only allowed in restaurants.

When they reopened on January 31 at 12:01 am at 50 per cent capacity, the casino floors were gambling only. At that time, we were told, “There will only be alcohol available in restaurants when you’re seated at the table. Due to the mask policy, that means no drinking or eating in the casinos.”

The way most American casinos under mask mandates deal with it is simply lower your mask to eat or drink and raise it back up as soon as you’ve taken your bite or sip. That said, many have attendants walking the floor, making sure the gamblers comply.

But as it turned out, both Niagara Falls casinos had started to allow drinking on the casino floor “several weeks ago.”

Since all of Ontario’s casinos are non-smoking, they haven’t had to deal with the American casinos’ situation where gamblers simply drop their masks to smoke, usually for the entirety of the cigarette.
