Niagara Falls has now become the second municipality in Niagara Region to have all its councillors vaccinated against COVID-19.

Mayor Jim Diodati said today that he and the eight councillors serving the border city have now all been fully immunized.

The announcement comes three days after the City of St. Catharines said that the mayor and all 12 councillors there were double-dosed.

Niagara Falls Mayor Jim Diodati said it’s up to council to lead by example.

“This is a critical time as communities continue to open up to a greater degree and groups are gathering in person more frequently,” he said.

“We felt that it was important, as a Council, to show our example of how we plan to move forward safely and continue to meet and operate effectively to serve the public.”

Diodati added that it’s up to Council and the Niagara Falls city staffers to decide the next steps for mandating vaccines or creating a policy for public sector employers, upper levels of government and Public Health officials within their community.
