Niagara College says masks not mandatory starting July 4th

While it initially looked like the mandatory masking policy would continue on the Niagara College’s campuses in Welland and Niagara-on-the-Lake over the summer months, the school just announced they are rescinding it as of July 4.

While masks are still encouraged and in fact, will be continued in “specific academic areas where enhanced personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements are already in place,” students at large can now go mask-free.

“Given current COVID trends and provincial and local public health directives, Niagara College will suspend the mandatory mask policy for its campuses as of July 4,” the college said in a release.

“Recognizing that key COVID indicators continue to fluctuate, masking will still be encouraged at Niagara College campuses but will no longer be mandatory except in specific academic areas where enhanced personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements are already in place. These requirements will be communicated at the program level.”

However, they also made it clear that students who chose to continue masking up should do so without repercussions from others.

“Niagara College campuses will continue to be a mask-friendly environment where all members of the college community are supportive and respectful of individual choices with regards to masking.”
