A new space dedicated to local youth services has opened up in Halton Hills.

This newly renovated youth centre, which is located at 19 Willow Street North within the Acton Town Hall, officially opened on Oct. 5 and will serve as an activity hub to gather, socialize and learn.

The Acton Youth Centre includes several amenities such as a large open space for gathering and other activities, outdoor program space, a family-style kitchen, community rooms, showers and laundry amenities.

“To be able to construct and open this centre, during a pandemic, is a testament to our community’s resilience and strength,” said Mayor Rick Bonnette.

“The Acton Youth Centre has been set up as a one-stop-shop for youth that supports and enhances recreational opportunities, mental health, and other services that support youth in navigating community resources. Thank you to the generous donations from the Rotary Club of Acton, Halton Hills Service Club Collaborative and the S.A.W. Memorial Golf Tournament towards the space.”

The municipality has two youth centres in Acton and Georgetown, both of which are operated by trained staff in partnership with social service agencies such as Reach Out Centre for Kids (ROCK), ADAPT and Support House.

All admissions and programs are free of charge and open to youth between the ages of 12 and 24.

Residents are invited to virtually experience the new facility through a video that was shot to introduce and celebrate it.
