Lightning struck for a 62-year-old Oshawa man after he won a grand prize of more than $212,000 in the May 23 Lightning Lotto jackpot.
Dwight T., a regular lottery player who works in security, was at his usual store when he discovered his big win. “The owner told me I was a big winner, and the other customers were very happy for me,” he said while at the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto to collect his cheque.
Oshawa’s newest lotter winner shared the news with some immediate family members and coworkers. “Everyone was thrilled for me,” he said a smile. “This feels very surreal.”
With his winnings, he plans to save for retirement and take a motorcycle trip with his brother around Newfoundland.
Lightning Lotto players can win a jackpot on the spot by matching all five numbers in any one line on their ticket with those drawn earlier that day. The top prize starts at $125,000 and grows with ticket sales.
The winning ticket was purchased at Daisy Mart on King Street East in Bowmanville.
