Newcastle man hits jackpot, plans to sponsor a few families this Christmas

Michael Vanderteems of Newcastle won the Ontario’s jackpot of $267,742.90 in the October 22 LOTTARIO draw.
Vanderteems, a 56-year-old father, said he is a regular lottery player, and his favourite game is LOTTARIO. “I had a fantastic day with my wife and stopped to purchase this ticket on my way home,” he shared while at the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto to pick up his winnings.
He said he thought he won $26,000 at first. “When the clerk pointed out that I won $267,000 my knees gave out for a split second. I went home to tell my wife, but she didn’t believe me,” he said. “She checked the ticket on her OLG App and she was shocked. We scanned the ticket a ton of times and cried tears of joy.”
Vanderteems and his wife plan to give back and share their windfall. “We will sponsor a few families in our community this Christmas. The rest will be used to help us buy a house and we want to share some with our children,” he said.
“I feel so happy – I want to spread this happiness around. I’m shaking with excitement.”
OLG is booking in-person prize claim appointments at the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto and strongly encourages those with claims between $1,000 and $49,999.90 to submit them online or mail them in. Submitting claims online is fast and secure. Customers with prizes over $50,000 are asked to call 1-800-387-0098 to discuss available prize claim options.
