There are almost 10 babies born every day at St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton. However, only one can be the first of the year.

Scarlett Lynch, weighing in at a healthy 6 pounds, 8 ounces, made her debut at 3:09 am on January 1st to become Hamilton’s first baby born in 2023.

Scarlett’s proud parents Skye and Cody Lynch will now get to introduce her to big brother, Noah, age two.

“We just wanted a healthy baby, and are happy this little girl completes our family,” Skye and Cody told St. Joe’s staff.

“Welcoming the New Year’s Baby is a time-honoured tradition at St. Joe’s. Every year, over 3,600 babies are born here,” says Catherine Duffin, Clinical Director of the Women’s & Infants’ Unit.

“We’re one of only five Hospitals in the province deemed Baby Friendly by the World Health Organization. The care delivered by our obstetricians, nurses, and midwives in St. Joe’s Birthing Unit is truly exceptional, but you’ll see that the unit itself is in need of a little TLC.”
